DaPoPo Theatre

DaPoPo asserts that theatre’s function is a political one: to advance knowledge of the human state and challenge power. It is, moreover, a popular one. Theatre must enliven its audience, or: ‘the people’, not by lulling them into ignorant bliss, but by awakening them into knowledgeable discontent. Finally, it is a craft, and the hands-on work, searching for expressive means, is inherently poetic, playful, and vocally plural.

DaPoPo embraces queer themes, characters, stories, and artists, reflecting our core members’ convictions and lived experience. As many of our core members bring musical expertise to the company, we are drawn to the creation of new, ground-breaking works of Music Theatre. We pursue an ideal of radical inclusion and access. DaPoPo is committed to professional development and community outreach, and our work with young artists.
We believe in touring our work, both nationally and internationally. DaPoPo runs The Nest, a collaborative arts space on Quinpool Road.
