The Final Recordings of an Almost Extinct Bird

Fred has a lot on his mind. The origins of the universe, for starters. The fabric of spacetime, too. The formation of the Earth, plate tectonics, the fossil record, winding valley roads, campfires, pottery cafes—the list goes on and on; there’s also the matter of the giant salty egg and the man in the comfy blue chair.
“Final Recordings…” is a bittersweet story of summer love and the colossal questions cracked open by its retelling. Driven by Stewart Legere’s captivating performance, accompanied by large-scale video and sound design, the show runs 90 minutes and contains mature content and strong language. It’s an intimate show about the beginnings and endings of love, life, humanity and the universe, and an invitation to consider one’s relationship to deep time, no matter what rocks you find yourself on.
Developed in association with The Fundy Geological Museum, “Final Recordings…” had its premiere run at Eastern Front Theatre’s 2025 Stages Festival. It was co-created, performed and sound designed by Stewart Legere with projections by Christian Ludwig Hansen, lighting by Jessica Lewis, costumes, set and props by Leesa Hamilton, and co-created and directed by Ben Stone.
