Elevator Theatre Company is accepting audition submissions for our upcoming production of David Lindsay-Abaire’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Rabbit Hole.
ABOUT THE SHOW
Eight months after the death of their young son, Becca and Howie Corbett are trying to find their way through a life that no longer looks anything like the one they had planned.
As they navigate grief in very different ways, Becca’s outspoken mother and impulsive younger sister bring their own complications into the family, while an unexpected connection with Jason (the teenager involved in the accident) forces Becca to confront questions of loss, forgiveness, and what it means to continue living.
Rabbit Hole is an intimate, emotional play about grief, family, humour, and the messy process of moving forward when there is no simple way to do so.
ETC’s production will place the audience close to the actors, with a strong focus on truthful, detailed performance and the relationships at the centre of the play.

BECCA CORBETT
Playing age: late 30s–early 40s
Howie’s wife and Danny’s mother. Intelligent, direct, guarded, and fiercely private. Eight months after losing her son, Becca is trying to construct a life she can survive while resisting the ways other people believe she should grieve.
A role requiring tremendous emotional specificity and restraint. Becca is not defined solely by sadness; humour, frustration, love, anger, intelligence, and a strong desire for normalcy all live alongside her grief.
HOWIE CORBETT
Playing age: late 30s–early 40s
Becca’s husband and Danny’s father. Warm, grounded, and deeply invested in preserving both his memories of Danny and his relationship with Becca.
Howie processes his grief differently from his wife, creating an increasing distance between them despite the love that remains. The role requires emotional openness, vulnerability, humour, and a strong sense of an established marriage.
IZZY
Playing age: early–mid 30s
Becca’s younger sister. Energetic, impulsive, funny, and sometimes chaotic. Izzy arrives with unexpected news that forces the family to confront the fact that life continues even in the middle of profound loss.
Beneath her humour and volatility is someone who deeply loves her sister and wants to be taken seriously.
NAT
Playing age: 60s
Mother to Becca and Izzy. Blunt, affectionate, opinionated, funny, and occasionally frustrating.
Nat has experienced significant loss of her own and attempts to connect with Becca through that shared experience, not always successfully. The role balances humour with considerable emotional depth and requires a strong sense of family history.
JASON WILLETTE
Playing age: 17
A thoughtful, awkward high-school student who was driving the car involved in Danny’s death.
Jason carries his own complicated grief and guilt and eventually reaches out to Becca. Sensitive, intelligent, sincere, and unsure of himself, he becomes part of one of the play’s most unexpected and important relationships.
CONTENT
Rabbit Hole deals extensively with the death of a child and the different ways people experience grief following a traumatic loss. The play also includes discussions of death, a fatal motor vehicle accident, pregnancy, substance use, family conflict, and bereavement. ETC is committed to approaching this material with care throughout the rehearsal process and creating a supportive, respectful environment for everyone involved.
AUDITION VIDEO
Please submit one video containing a brief introduction (tell us a little bit about yourself!) and one contemporary dramatic monologue. Videos should not exceed 3 minutes in length.

ETC VALUES

REHEARSALS
Rehearsals will take place in Halifax beginning on November 4.
The anticipated rehearsal schedule is approximately three rehearsals per week, taking place on Tuesday evenings and Saturday/Sunday afternoons.
Technical rehearsals: January 18–20, 2027
Performances: January 21–31, 2027
Venue: The Bus Stop Theatre, Halifax
Actors must be available for all technical rehearsals and performances. Known rehearsal conflicts can be included with your submission and will be considered during scheduling and casting.
COMPENSATION
Each performer will receive a $425 honorarium for the full production, paid following the completion of the performance run.
This is a non-union production. Equity actors wishing to audition must obtain approval from their representative prior to auditioning.
