Quick as a Wink is looking for a talented Lead Scenic Set Painter to bring our stage design for Mean Girls to life. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Director and set designer and be responsible for picking up supplies and overseeing set painting volunteers. We need someone with a strong artistic eye, leadership skills, and experience in various scenic painting techniques.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the production team to develop the overall colour palette, painting styles, finishes, and scenic techniques for the set.
- Plan painting needs and organize materials, supplies, and the sequence of work.
- Work with the production team to organize and coordinate volunteer painters.
- Lead painting sessions and demonstrate techniques and provide guidance to volunteers with a wide range of experience and skill levels.
- Delegate tasks appropriately, from priming and base coating to more detailed scenic painting techniques, so that volunteers can contribute at a level they are comfortable with.
- Ensure that scenic painting is completed consistently with the overall design and within the production timeline.
- Work collaboratively with the Set Builder/Construction Crew as set pieces are completed and become ready for painting.
Most painting sessions will take place at the Quick As A Wink warehouse on Wentworth Road in Windsor or in the theatre at King’s-Edgehill School. While planning and collaboration will begin in the fall, the majority of hands-on painting will take place during December and January.
