About the Show

In the wake of the success of the April 4th, 2026 Debut of “Someplace Believing: The Musical”, we are going to be performing more shows! We are looking for a pool of actors willing to perform in the HRM, as we want to take the show to various locations in the Valley, as well.

This play celebrates diversity and aims to keep reducing mental health stigma, showcasing the value of every individual in society. It is for everyone who has ever felt othered, underestimated, or unseen. It’s about community, humour, falling apart, and still daring to believe there’s something better.

With a backdrop of music that is reminiscent of 80’s Pop/Rock with Symphonic accents, it blends humor and serious themes, exploring the journey of a young woman with Schizophrenia as she navigates the real world after escaping a cult-like upbringing.

With the help of a quirky group of individuals from Someplace Believing, an employment and life skills agency for those with Mental Illness, she learns to embrace her unique identity and finds strength in her experiences.

Roles Available – seeking Leads and Understudies

Ensemble:

Members of Someplace Believing include various genders and ethnicities, ages ranging from 20-50. Each member has a distinct personality and backstory, representing different mental health challenges. Vocal ranges vary, however, I am seeking strong 80’s style, clear vocals, and actors with a unique flair. There will be some choreographed dance numbers, so dance skills are a plus.
Please note descriptions must be adhered to for the sake of the plot/message the play conveys. Some are gender/age/ethnicity-specific, but others are fluid.

Lead Role:

Misty May: Age 18-20, Caucasian. Misty May grew up very sheltered and abused. She is still very naive and insecure and is just learning about her Schizophrenia and other Mental Illnesses, as well as genders and race differences, and truly, the real world.

Supporting Roles:

Sally. Age 25-30. Ethnicity chosen from best -suited actress. Sally loves animals, not so much people! She manages Agoraphobia. She is Wiccan with a razor-sharp wit. She can be intense, but has a huge heart.
Simon. Age 25-30. Ethnicity chosen from best-suited actor. Simon is Gay. Simon manages OCD and Germophobia. He has a HUGE personality and likes to be the centre of attention all the time with a very low filter – he and Sally often bicker.
Nellie. Age 25-30. Female. Ethnicity chosen from best-suited actress. Nellie is nurturing and only ever wants to help. She is the one you turn to when you are having a bad day and everyone’s cheerleader. Nellie manages Dissociative Identity Disorder.
Alex. Age 20-25. Male. Misty May’s love interest. Alex does not have a reported Mental Illness. He is understanding and sweet and never hesitates to help those he loves.
Zeke. Age 25-30. Male. Ethnicity chosen from best-suited actor. Sally’s no good, cheating Ex who keeps trying to win her back. He has a small, but very important part.
Adam. Age 25-30. Caucasian Male. Misty May’s brother. He is intolerant, ignorant and only wants to control Misty May.
H. Age 40-45. Gender Diverse. H has a strong presence, yet says very little. H does not use pronouns of ANY kind and gets very offended if someone calls H by anything other than H. H will not speak much, but has a huge “presence” in every scene, always observing and knowing all that is happening! H’s role, in the end, will blow the audience away!
Aunt Eliza. Age 55-60. Caucasian Female. Misty May’s Aunt who rescued her years ago from her abusive situation and has made it her mission to make sure all the “bad guys” get caught. She has a small, but extremely pivotal role.
