CFNS Group Insurance

Professional and Affiliate organization members of TNS who have full time employees are able to access a Group Benefits plan held by the Cultural Federations of NS with Manulife Insurance.

The plan is a 50-50% cost shared plan, where employees pay 50% of the plan’s monthly cost, and the organization/employer pays the other 50%.

In order to partake in this plan, organizations must be Members of Theatre Nova Scotia in good standing, and pay an annual membership fee of $300 to become an Affiliate member of the Cultural Federations of NS. As an Affiliate Member of CFNS, the organization can access the Health Plan for their employees.

Members can reach out to TNS at <theatrens@theatrens.ca> to get more information or to register.

Eligibility for the Plan

  • Any employee working permanently on staff for 20hrs/week or more is eligible to be covered by the plan.
  • If an organization registers for the Manulife plan, all eligible employees must join the plan.
  • However, an employee may choose to waive insurance coverage, if they are covered elsewhere by their partner or spouse.
  • The company must be a member in good standing of Theatre Nova Scotia.
  • Upon deciding to join the plan and becoming an Affiliate Member of CFNS, an organization will have a 3-month probationary window before coverage can start.
After this 3-month probation period, an organization has an additional 31 days to register for the health plan. Doing so within this window means any preexisting health conditions will not need to be scrutinized. Beyond these 3 months and 31 days, insurance carriers will require applicants to pass a “Medical Evidence of Insurability” questionnaire, where their medical records and preexisting health conditions will be much more closely scrutinized. Joining onto the plan as soon as you start your membership with CFNS is therefore highly encouraged!
